Easy ways to protect your Android phone

Your Android phone not only enables you to
do nearly everything online, but also allows
you to carry your life in your pocket.
Although having all that information in a
single location and always on hand may be
especially convenient, it makes for an
appealing target to thieves and hackers. But
you're not defenseless: You can take a number
of steps and precautions to ensure that your
stuff stays safe.
Pay attention to app permissions
App permissions are your first line of defense
against malicious software. Every time you
install an app, you see a pop-up that lists all
of the aspects of your phone that the app is
designed to access. While most people
mindlessly dismiss the pop-up and continue
the installation, it sometimes pays off to
discover whether the flashlight app you
downloaded uses services that could cost you
money, for example, or to learn that
Facebook's app essentially asks to use your
entire phone.
App permissions are archaic and difficult to
read, but newer versions of Android make
understanding them a little easier. You can
tap each individual permission to learn more
about it and make better decisions as to which
apps you download. Unfortunately, you can't
pick and choose which permissions to accept,
so if an app wants access to something, you
must either accept all its demands or find a
different app.
Download only from the Play Store
Android evangelists often talk about the
benefits of sideloading software onto your
smartphone. On paper, it makes sense: We
should be able to install and run whatever we
like on our devices. The harsh reality is that
downloading and installing random apps you
find on the Internet can lead to trouble--even
if you're being vigilant.
Although the Google Play Store has housed
malicious apps in the past , Google has done
its part to clean out most of the riffraff. The
store isn't as reliable as the Apple App Store,
but you won't feel like you're playing Russian
roulette every time you download a game or
Twitter client. Downloading an app from a
random website on the Internet, in contrast,
opens your data--and sometimes even your
wallet--to all sorts of malware. Android apps
are notoriously easy to take apart, and
attackers can repurpose even popular apps
such as Snapchat or Tinder to distribute
mobile malware without your knowledge.
You can find a handful of reputable third-
party app stores, such as the Amazon App
Store or F-Droid , but sticking to the Play
Store greatly reduces your chances of coming
across unsavory software.
Install a security suite
If you're really worried about malware, you
should look into getting a security suite for
your phone. A search for "security" on the
Google Play Store produces a couple thousand
results, some of which come from desktop-
security software companies such as McAfee
and Norton. I recommend downloading either
Lookout Mobile Security or TrustGo Mobile
Security, as AV-Test (an independent antivirus
testing center) ranked those apps highly on
features and on their ability to catch malware.
A security app often gives you functions
beyond alerts that flag infections from
malicious apps. Most mobile security suites
offer ways to back up your phone--a feature
sorely missing from Android--and some
security tools can help you locate, lock, and
wipe your device remotely should it be
pilfered from your pocket. Installing a
security suite on your phone may not sound
like a glamorous task, but once you have set
it up, you can rest easy knowing that you have
a system in place in case anything goes
wrong.
Lock your phone
This might seem obvious, but putting a PIN or
pattern lock on your phone is one of the
easiest ways to secure your device. Doing so
keeps nosy friends out of your text messages
and makes it harder for thieves to wipe and
resell your phone. You can set a lock screen
on your phone by going into Settings and
making your way to the Security & Screen
Lock option. Note that attackers and snoops
can crack pattern locks by examining the
streaks that you leave on the screen by
entering your pattern over and over again, so
a PIN is the way to go if you're worried about
someone using your oily skin against you.
You lose the convenience of just being able to
turn on your phone and get right into using
it, but the increased protection is worth the
extra hassle.
Look past the FUD
The most important thing to remember about
Android security is that you shouldn't buy
into all the scaremongering that media outlets
report on an almost daily basis. Android's
open nature makes it less secure than iOS or
Windows Phone, but you can avoid most of
the threats to your phone if you take even
just one of the precautions described above.
So while a plague of phone-bricking Trojan
horses might be spreading via a shady app
store in Ukraine, you and your freshly
secured phone have nothing to worry about.

How to Hide Your IP Address

Hiding your I.P. address offers an additional
layer of security when surfing on the
internet. There may be times when visiting a
site that it may try to access your personal
information without you knowing. With
security flaws in web browser, a hacker site
can install malware onto your computer and
access it through your IP address. The
internet can be a hostile environment for
non-experience web surfers. So why not
hide your computer and ISP I.P. address
from the web. This can easily be done with a
proxy server.
Step1:
You will need to download proxy server
software from the internet. See my resource
links below for safe downloads.
Step2:
Once you have the proxy server software
installed, you will most likely need to update
its database with proxy server IP addresses.
Refer to the Help file of the software you
downloaded for detailed instructions.
Step3:
Some proxy software will ask you for the
browser you are going to use so that can it
configure the browser for the correct proxy
IP address. Some software will automatically
detect what browsers are installed on your
computer and configure them automatically.
Step4:
For anonymous web surfing you will need to
enable your proxy server software before
opening your browser. If you are using
Internet Explorer, you can go to Tools,
Internet Options, Connections, and then
select LAN settings. If you see that the proxy
server box is checked and you see an IP
address and port numbers, then you are all
set. This is only a one time check and
doesn't need to be repeated for the next
time.
Step5:
To surf the web with out a proxy server, all
you need is to deactivate the proxy server.
This will restore your browser configuration
to the original settings.

How Solid-state Drives Work

In 1956, IBM shipped the world's first hard
disk drive, or HDD , in the RAMAC 305 system.
The drive used 50 24-inch (61-centimeter)
platters, stored a meager 5 megabytes of data
and took up more room than two refrigerators.
Oh, and the cost? Just $50,000 ($421,147 in
2012 dollars).
Since then, hard drives have grown smaller,
more capacious and, thankfully, less expensive.
For example, the Seagate Momentus laptop
hard drive, with a form factor of just 2.5
inches (6.4 centimeters), offers 750 gigabytes
of storage for less than $100. But even with
advanced protection technologies, the
Momentus drive, like all HDDs, can crash and
burn, taking precious data with it. That's
because hard drives have mechanical parts
that can fail. Drop a laptop, and the read-write
heads can touch the spinning platters. This
almost always results in severe data loss.
Luckily, a new kind of computer drive could
make crashes as obsolete as your Apple IIe.
Known as a solid-state drive, or SSD, it uses
semiconductor chips, not magnetic media, to
store data. Your computer already comes with
chips, of course. The motherboard contains
some that house your device's system memory,
or RAM, which is where information is stored
and processed when your computer is running.
Computer types refer to such memory as
volatile memory because it evaporates as
soon as your machine loses power. The chips
used in a solid-state drive deliver non-volatile
memory, meaning the data stays put even
without power. SSD chips aren't located on the
motherboard, either. They have their own
home in another part of the computer. In fact,
you could remove the hard drive of your
laptop and replace it with a solid-state drive,
without affecting any other essential
components.
But why would you want to? And what exactly
would the drive look like -- a green, printed
circuit board or a brushed-metal box
resembling a traditional hard drive? We'll
answer those questions on the following pages,
but before we give your machine a makeover,
let's review a few computer science basics.

How do I update the drivers on my computer?

It seems like a day doesn't go by where our
computer isn't politely urging us to please
install an update for something or other. While
most of these allow us to explore new features
in our music library or help software run with
more security, there's also the need to update
so your computer can run what you want,
period.
In a computer, a driver is a piece of software
that tells hardware how to run on a certain
operating system. That means your PC card,
DVD drive, video card and other hardware all
use drivers to make their operations work. If
you're using your computer right now, you
probably have a ton of drivers already installed
and working.
That's one of the reasons, in fact, that people
don't know that much about drivers. Whenever
Windows or Mac has an update, the drivers are
generally installed along with it; you don't even
realize you're getting a fancy new way for your
hardware to communicate as well. In general,
you don't need to fuss about whether or not to
update your drivers. While there are some
drivers that Windows doesn't automatically
update, they're by and large covered.
But how do you know when you need to
update your drivers? According to programmer
and writer Leo Notenboom, there's no reason
to update for the sake of updating. Instead,
decide to update using some common sense
signals [source: Notenboom ]. If you're having
issues with your hardware, checking for a
driver update is a great place to start
troubleshooting. If Windows or the software
itself tells you an update is available, it also
doesn't hurt to take it.
So let's upgrade ourselves a page and discover
how we can update any drivers that might need
our attention.

How to Uninstall on a Mac

Getting rid of programs on a Mac can be easy.
Or difficult. Easy because in most cases you
simply drag the program's icon to the trash
and the software disappears. Difficult because
Mac doesn't include the uninstall feature that
Windows users take for granted. Some
programs create files in the nooks and
crannies of your Mac's hard drive , and finding
them can take some detective work.
Why would you want to uninstall a program?
For the same reason you occasionally tidy your
office or clean your garage. Clutter breeds
inefficiency. Applications take up space on
your hard disk and can slow your computer.
Also, a new version of a program may not
work correctly unless you get rid of the old
one [source: Ritchie].
Most of the time, uninstalling is this simple:
1. Exit all programs.
2. Open the Applications folder, which
you'll find by clicking on the hard disk
icon.
3. Drag to the trash the icon of the
program you want to uninstall.
4. Empty the trash.
This method works fine with many
applications, like iTunes or Quicken. The files
for these applications are all stored in one
location. In Mac talk, they are "bundled." To
see if a program is bundled, click on its icon
while holding down the Control key. If a box
appears that says, "show package contents,"
it's a bundled program and the drag-to-the-
trash method is probably the best way to
uninstall it
For some other programs, removal is more
complicated. When installed, these programs
create files in several locations. The first step
in removing them is to check the program's
documentation to see if there is an uninstall
utility. If your program has an uninstall utility
associated with it, it may have been installed
with the program or included on the disk that
came with it. To remove Symantec software,
for example, you can download the uninstall
feature from the company [source: Norton].
Running an uninstall utility can make removing
a program much easier.
You should be aware that removing an
unbundled program by moving it into the trash
can leave behind orphan files on your
computer. Preference files are usually small
and you might want to ignore them if you're
just trying to free up disk space. Background
files or support files can be larger, especially
for multimedia programs like Garageband
[source: MacRumors ]. These files are likely to
reside in Library folders in your hard drive or
Home folder. They will usually be labeled with
the name of the program, like Office or
Acrobat, or the developer, such as Microsoft
or Adobe. You can search for the relevant
names using Spotlight, which is included with
the Mac OS. Drag the files you find to the
trash to get rid of them [source: The,x Lab].
Check out the next page for tips to make your
uninstall go even more smoothly.

How to take a Screenshot on a Mac

You might occasionally need to capture the
image on your computer screen so you can
save or share it. If you've used a PC designed
to run Microsoft Windows, you've probably
used the Print Screen key on the keyboard to
do this. If you're using a Mac, though, you'll
notice Apple doesn't include such a key. Don't
worry, though, because we're about to look at
the keyboard combinations and built-in tools
you can use on your Mac to capture what you
need from the screen.
First, let's look at the keyboard combinations
you can use to capture the image on your
screen. The keystrokes for screenshots are
multiple keys that should be pressed together.
When you do this, press and hold the first key,
then the second, and so forth, and immediately
release all keys after pressing the final one in
the sequence. The following are the keystrokes
to remember for screen capturing:
Command+Shift+3 captures the entire screen
and saves it to a file on your desktop.
Command+Shift+4 temporarily replaces your
mouse cursor with a tool to select any
rectangular portion of the screen. Click and
drag the tool to make your selection. Your
cursor immediately returns to normal after
that selection.
Control added to the start of either of these
sequences saves the image to the clipboard
temporarily instead of to a permanent file.
That allows you to copy and paste what you
see on the screen into an application, such as
image editing software.
If you don't use the Control key, your Mac
saves these keystroke captures to your desktop
by default. When you're capturing images this
way, you won't see any system or app
notifications to verify success. Instead, the
system just plays a chime that sounds like a
film camera snapping a photo. To see the files
you're saving, you'll have to either open your
Finder or minimize your windows to find the
images saved on the desktop.
Mac OS X traditionally saved keyboard-
generated screenshots as tagged image file
format (TIFF) files. Macs switched to portable
document format (PDF) starting in the 10.2
release of OS X, and to portable network
graphics (PNG) files by 10.6. Later, we'll look
at how you can convert any of these images to
other file formats.
While keystrokes let you get a quick capture
from the screen, they have limited options for
what you're capturing. That's where the Grab
utility comes in. Next, let's take a look at how
to use Grab, including how to capture a
specific window and how to time the capture
to include things like mouse-over text or drop-
down menus.

How to Remove Blogger Title Bars

A Blogger.com blog, by default, has two items
at the top of every blog: an address bar and a
header, or title, of the blog. Removing these
bars can give your blog a look that stands out
from the crowd. You cannot remove either of
these bars using the basic Blogger design
editor, but if you access the underlying HTML
code, you can manipulate almost anything on
the page. Removing the address bar is a simple
process of just adding some code. Removing
the page's header is a little tricky, as Blogger
will try to put the header back if you remove
it.

Instructions
1
Visit the Blogger website to access your
blog dashboard. Click the "Design"
button next to the blog that you want to
alter.
2
Click "Edit HTML" from the options at
the top of the design page. This will
bring up a large text box that is filled
with the HTML code for your blog.
3
Scroll down a few lines in the text box
until you see the "/* Variable
definitions" entry. Click on the empty
line just above this and enter the
following code:
#navbar-iframe {display: none !
important;}
This code will remove the navigation bar
from the top of your blog. Click the
"Save Template" button at the bottom of
the screen to save your changes.
4
Press "Ctrl" and "F" to bring up a search
box in your browser. Type "widget
id='header1" (without quotes) into the
search box and press "Enter." The code
in the text box will jump to the
requested line in the code.
5
Look at the line of code directly above
the one you just found for the
"maxwidgets" entry. Change the "1"
next to "maxwidgets" to a "2." Click
"Save Template" to save your changes.
6
Click the "Page Elements" option at the
top of the screen to bring up the design
elements of your blog. Click the "Add a
Gadget" option located directly above
your header bar. Click the "+" next to
"Follow by Email" in the window that
appears and click "Save" in the
confirmation window. Click "Edit HTML"
at the top of the screen to go back to
your HTML editor.
7
Search for "widget id='header" again
and erase the entire line that includes
this piece of code. The line will start
with "<b:widget" and end with
"type='header'/>." Remove the line
directly above this one as well. The
second line starts with "<b:widget" and
ends with "type='FollowByEmail'/>." By
adding the extra widget to the top of
the page and then removing it, Blogger
will no longer replace the header bar
widget when you delete it.
8
Click "Save Template" just below the
text box to save your changes. A
warning box will appear at the top of
the page, asking you whether you are
sure that you want to remove the
header widget. Click "Delete Widgets" to
continue. Click "View Blog" at the top of
the screen to see your blog without the
navigation and header bars.

How to Add a Facebook Link to the Profile Gadget on Blogger

With the use of certain tools or "gadgets" that
come standard with every Blogger blog, you
can promote your Facebook Page right from
the sidebar of your blog. Then when someone
clicks on your "Like Box," he'll be directed to
your Facebook Page. To do this, you'll need to
generate a simple code that is available from
the Facebook Developers page.

Instructions
1
Navigate to the "Facebook Like Box"
page at Developers.facebook.com/docs/
reference/plugins/like-box and type your
Facebook Page name into the "Facebook
Page URL" box, after the "http://
www.facebook.com" portion.
2
Click "Get Code."
3
Copy the Like Box code that appears in
the next window.
4
Log in to your Blogger account with
your username and password.
5
Click "Design" from the Blogger
Dashboard.
6
Click "Add a Gadget" from the Blogger
Edit Layout page.
7
Select "HTML/JavaScript" from the list
of gadgets that appear in the pop-up
window.
8
Paste the Facebook Like Box code into
the box that appears, then click "Save."
A new gadget will appear on your blog's
sidebar, with a "Like" box that links to
your Facebook Page.

How to Get 5000 Views To Your Blog Per Day

Instructions
1
Produce good content. The benefits of
this step are not only essential to the
development of your blog, but also
twofold for your efforts. Captivating,
original content is the best way to keep
visitors returning to your blog again and
again. Quality content that is updated
regularly is also favored by search
engines, meaning your blog ranks higher
in search results.
2
Acquire backlinks from popular blogs in
your sector. Search engines look at
incoming links from other sites to
determine the quality and credibility of
your page. The more trustworthy the
linking sites, the more trust you earn
with search engines. Use a free Google
PageRank checker to see how similar
blogs rank with Google. Locate the
highest ranking blogs and contact their
owners or leave comments on their
posts to find ways to link to your site.
3
Invite guest bloggers to write posts on
your site. Most likely, these writers will
link to their guests posts from their own
sites. This will not only help introduce
new readers, but also establish the
quality backlinks that search engines are
looking for.
4
Build Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
accounts to direct more users to your
blog. Each of these outlets allows you to
be introducing more content, through
more mediums, to more readers. When
one of your social media outlets
producing something interesting (e.g. a
contest of Facebook), don't forget to
publicize it on your other channels.
5
Install Google Analytics on your blog to
monitor your progress toward the 5,000
view goal. Google Analytics allows you
to view your visitors by location, time
spent on the site, and more. Looking at
referring sites (the sites that brought
viewers to your blog through direct
links) will help you assess your backlink
building and networking efforts.

How to Make Money Online With Simple Blog Posts

Instructions
1
Compose a list of topics you are
passionate and knowledgeable about.
Successful blogging for money typically
requires hundreds of posts over a
period of months or years -- choosing
topics you know and care about can
help provide the motivation and content
you need.
2
Search for phrases related to your
potential blog topics using a major
search engine such as Google or Bing.
Take note of how many search results or
paid ads appear for each search. If
other people are writing about the topic
or paying for ads to attract visitors, the
topic likely has the potential to make
money.
3
Sign up for a blog on a blog host such
as WordPress or Blogger. Choose a name
for your blog that is relevant to the
topic you selected, so visitors will know
what to expect when they arrive.
4
Begin writing simple posts of about 250
to 400 words each. Each post needs to
relate to the main topic and focus on a
specific aspect of that topic. For
example, if you start a blog about
freelance writing, posts can focus on
aspects like getting clients, organization,
maintaining motivation, tax
considerations and setting fees.
5
Sign up for a contextual advertising
service such as Google Adwords or
Adbrite. You will place a short section of
code on your blog that generates
advertisements relevant to your posts.
Each time a visitor clicks on one of the
ads, you earn a small fee, usually
between $0.05 and $1.00 depending on
the popularity of the topic.
6
Place affiliate advertisements on your
blog. Online businesses offer affiliate
programs for a wide variety of products
and services, from consumer electronics
to credit cards. When a blog visitor
clicks on an affiliate advertisement and
purchases a product or service from the
advertiser, you earn a commission.
Tips & Warnings
Select affiliate advertisements for products
and services that are relevant to your blog
topic. Visitors reading a blog about oil
painting are less likely to click on an
advertisement for frozen steaks than an
advertisement for discount art supplies.
Write in a casual, conversational style to
draw in readers and keep them on your
blog.
Provide a disclosure on your blog stating
that you receive compensation from
advertisements. The Federal Trade
Commission requires bloggers to provide
this disclosure.

How to Make Money Online With YouTube

Instructions
1
Take advantage of your computer tools.
If you simply track popularity ratings
using Google Analytics and the new
YouTube Insight tool, you'll find exactly
which videos are most effective and
why. This can prep you for your own
advertisement by pointing you in the
right direction.
2
Research and find out where to go.
Making money on YouTube isn't as
complicated as most people imagine,
and you don't even have to sell anything
with your ad. For example, YouTube has
a tool especially for advertisers called
the "InVideo" application.
Sponsored by Adbrite (an advertising
mega corporation) this handy little thing
gets your video up and running in no
time. If you make an interesting video
clip that draws audiences, Adbrite will
put one of their ads on the front or
back end of it and pay you every time
your clip gets a hit.
3
Promote your own product. If you have
a start-up or personal business idea and
you'd like to make money online with it,
this is a great way to begin. Make sure
that all of your video material is
original. It should also be creative and
interesting, or else there will be no
reason for people to view your video
rather than someone else's.
The modern attention span is constantly
shortening. Luckily for you, this means
that with the right amount of pizazz,
you can hold their 13-second focus long
enough to make a sale.
4
Be subtle and clever. Modern marketing
shows us that your advertisement
should be funny and witty first and
foremost. It doesn't take a whole lot to
bridge this to a product. Sometimes
subliminal messaging gets the job done
better than you might think, and all you
need for that is a company logo
watermarked somewhere on your video.
5
People are making money on YouTube
all the time; for some of them it's
lucrative enough that they do nothing
else. Once you know how to tap into
this opportunity, you can do the same.
While you're here be sure to take a look
around for more tips and information
on making money online

How to Make Money Online Writing Poetry

Instructions
1
Populate your poetry blog or website
with advertising. Services such as
Google Adsense will provide you with
ads and a portion of the revenue when
each ad is clicked. Online retailers such
as Amazon.com will pay you a portion of
the revenue from goods sold to a user
who has clicked an ad on your site.
Drive traffic to your pages by
maintaining an active online presence,
adding new poetry to your blog or
website on a regular basis and
promoting your work on social
networking sites.
2
Solicit website advertising from local
businesses for a flat fee. Gain a local
following by participating in spoken
word events and poetry jams. Promote
your site by gathering names for an
email list, sending out regular
newsletters and tracking the number of
visits to your site. Once you can
demonstrate your online poetry has an
audience, approach local businesses
such as small bookstores to pay a
monthly fee to have an ad on your site.
3
Publish pieces of poetry on revenue-
share websites. These sites include
Hubpages and Squidoo, which pay
writers a portion of the revenue earned
from each post. Depending on which
revenue-sharing site you choose, you
may have to place your poetry within
the context of an article or otherwise
tailor your work to the demands of the
platform.
4
Submit your poetry to online magazines,
also called zines. If your work is
accepted for publication you may
receive payment depending on the
editorial policy of each zine. Many zines
also run poetry and fiction contests,
which may require an entry fee but
offer a sizable prize to the winning
entry.
5
Submit your poetry electronically for
publication in print magazines and
journals. Your poetry may not end up
online through this method, but if it
ends up in print you'll have used your
online savvy to reach the publishers
willing to pay you for your product.

have your own domain name and
website hosting in order to become a
vendor on clickbank. Clickbank allows

How to Make $1,000 a Month on the Internet

Things You'll Need
internet connection
willpower
patience
Instructions
1
.
***Think Long Term***
Making money online is a slow process.
If you're in a rush, buy a lottery ticket
and keep your fingers crossed. But if
you manage to be patient, you can build
up a substantial income.
Best of all, a lot of your income will be
"passive income", meaning that even
after you stop working, the money
keeps rolling in. Sort of like being an
author, actor, or musician, and
collecting royalties or residuals for work
you did long ago.
Online income starts as a
trickle...perhaps just a few cents, or a
dollar, for a month's work. But it grows
to a few dollars a month, then $50 a
month, then $100, and with dedication
(and again, patience), a thousand a
month will be in sight.
2
.
***Start at eHow***
About half of my online income I get
right here at eHow.
If you can write decently, you can write
a How-To article. And if you can write
How-To articles, you should be doing it
right here, and starting to earn money.
eHow is the easiest and surest way I
know to begin earning an online income.
With practice, each article you write can
earn about ten cents a day. Doesn't
sound like much, but that's $3 a month
for each article. Write 100 articles, and
you've got $300 a month coming in.
You're already well on your way to a
thousand a month.
The Resources section includes a lot
more information on how to get started
making money online with eHow.
3
.
***Find The Right Content
Opportunities That Work For You***
It's possible to make money online by
blogging, building a website, uploading
photos, videos, or music, and numerous
other options. These all entail providing
'content' -- materials that people want
to see or use on the web -- and getting
advertising (Adsense and affiliate)
income from the content.
For instance, I have numerous websites
and blogs that I've created on my own,
all of which bring in small income
streams from advertising revenue and
affiliate sales. My most successful is my
Newspaper Archives site at
XooxleAnswers.com
There are dozens of other content
opportunities, described in the Resource
article, Make Money on the Internet.
4
.
***Get a Job***
The rest of my online income comes
from work that I do in a somewhat
more traditional vein. I am an online
researcher and consultant, handling a
wide variety of research tasks for
people who need business information,
or personal research (like family history)
, or health and legal research, and so
on. Some of this I do through a service
called Uclue.com
Online research is not for everyone. But
it's not the only online work option.
Opportunities range from secretarial
and administrative work, to
programming, and even to mock jury
duty (really!). Take a look at the
Resources article, Making Money on the
Internet, for more possibilities.
Tips & Warnings
Remember, be patient, be dedicated. You'll
get there.

How to Make Money Online

Things You'll Need
Resume
Instructions
1
Buying and selling is a large part of the
internet market. You may be able to find
a full or part time job just emailing
people about services another company
has to offer. You may get paid a salary
or by the amount of business that you
bring into their company.
2
Creating a website can be another
method in making money online. With a
website, you could become an affiliate,
generate ad revenue, begin your own
retail store or start another service
business. The possibilities are endless
when you decide to design a website.
3
Writing jobs are plentiful. A good grasp
of words and talent to present them in a
coherent manner is all you will need to
succeed. If you have a specific style or
knowledge of certain topics, this may be
right for you. You could receive $5 to $
1000 per piece of writing. This, of
course, depends on the job and your
base knowledge of the subject.
4
Locating a data entry company can be
beneficial. These types of businesses pay
their employees to type up documents
and enter numbers into a spreadsheet
mostly for billing purposes.
5
Transcribing is another opportunity that
you can explore. This type of job offers
you the chance to type up medical
reports, video information as well as
audio. All the experience you would
need in this field is basic knowledge of
certain terms and quick typing skills.
Tips & Warnings
Remember to write a resume that describes
your experience, skills and other
employment.
Always look into a job fully before you
agree to their terms.
Reputable businesses will never ask for you
to pay them money to work for the
company.
Manyjob opportunities are legitimate,
however scams are present in any venture
you may embark on.

How to Use a Root to Remove UnwantedAndroid Apps

Gaining root access to your Android operating
system allows you tweak your device in a
number of ways, including the removal of both
native and third-party applications. Because
native applications are provided with the
Android operating system, they aren't offered
in the Android Market, making it important to
back up your app library before deleting native
apps. As with other root user modifications,
the process of removing applications from
your Android is performed using the command
terminal in the Android SDK tools library.

How to Block Ads on Your Android Phone

Online advertisements on your Android phone
can be more than just annoying -- they can
potentially jeopardize your business dealings
by taking up crucial bandwidth and memory,
slowing or halting important applications at
critical moments, or interrupting an important
conversation. You can block ads on your
Android phone either through the Firefox
browser, or by adding a third-party app.
AdAway
Step 1
Go to the Google Soapbox Apps store on your
Android phone, search for the AdAway app,
then click the "Buy" button to begin
downloading it.
Step 2
Start the AdAway app. Click "Download Files
and Apply Ad Blocking." Note that your phone
needs to be rooted to use this app.
Step 3
Reboot your phone when AdAway finishes
downloading.
Step 4
Visit the sites you normally visit. If you find
that one of the sites is still showing ads, add
that site to AdAway's list. Open AdAway, tap on
"Menu" and select "Lists." Press the "Black"
tab, then tap "Menu" and "Add." Type in the
Web address and click "Add" again. Reboot
once more. The ads on that site should now
disappear.
Android Adblock
Step 1
Go to android-adblock.com on your phone,
then press the "Buy" button and wait for the
app to begin downloading.
Step 2
Open Android Adblock and press "Start/
Reload." This app does not require rooting to
use. Leave it running in the background while
you use your Android phone.
Step 3
Test the app by surfing the Web. If you find
that too many ads are still showing up, make
note of the websites where they appear.
Step 4
Click "Add Filters" and add additional elements
to the Add Filters list. Retest the websites you
noted in Step 3.
Adblock Plus
Step 1
Set Firefox as the default browser on your
phone. This allows you to block ads with the
browser rather than an app, and does not
require your phone to be rooted.
Step 2
Tap the "Firefox" menu, then tap the "Add-
Ons" option to open the Add-Ons Manager in a
new tab.
Step 3
Select "Adblock Plus" from the list generated
by the Add-Ons Manager. Follow the
instructions to install it on your computer.
Warnings
A rooted phone is a phone on which you
have gained access to the root directory,
which is the primary control system for the
phone. A rooted phone gives you much
more control over it. However, if your
phone is not rooted and you are not well-
versed in computer and smartphone
software, do not attempt to root your
phone yourself. It is very easy to
inadvertently incapacitate your phone from
the root directory.
Rooting is legal, but may void your
warranty.

How to Make EXE Files Work on an AndroidPhone

An EXE file extension identifies a Windows
executable file. These files are typically
applications that run on a Windows PC. The
EXE file architecture is designed specifically for
the Windows operating system, which means
they can't be run natively on Android devices
that you may use in your small business.
Instead, you use a Windows computer to host
these apps, using the Android as a display and
interface back to the application.
Step 1
Install any Virtual Network Computing server
on your Windows-based PC. Virtual Network
Computing is a standard for remote viewing
and control of a computer from another
computer or device, and is available on various
operating systems, including Windows and
Android. RealVNC, TightVNC and UltraVNC are
examples of VNC servers that run on Windows
computers, and these apps are available as
freeware.
Step 2
Launch the VNC server application and set it
up to be viewable with a password. In most
cases, the application defaults to this
configuration. Be sure the VNC server is
running whenever you wish to work with EXE
files on your Android device.
Step 3
Write down the IP address of the computer
you are using. This information is displayed in
the settings of most VNC servers, possibly in
the form of a URL. For example,
"vnc://192.168.1.4" is the URL, and
"192.168.1.4" is the actual IP address.
Step 4
Log in to the administrative page of your office
network router, using the username and
password assigned to the router. Write down
the external IP address assigned to the router,
which usually can be found on the home page
of the administration interface. You'll need this
address to connect to your office network
from your Android phone. You can skip this
step if a domain name has already been
assigned to your network.
Step 5
Find the "Port Assignment" or "Port Routing"
tab, which is used to route network requests
from the Internet to specific computers on
your network. On most office networks, this is
a blank table, or you may have an assignment
for port 80 if you run an internal Web server.
Assign port 5900 to route to the IP address of
the VNC server that you determined earlier. If
entries for both incoming and outgoing port
assignments are present, use 5900 for both.
Step 6
Install a VNC client application on your
Android device. Widely used VNC applications
offered as freeware include Android-vnc-
viewer, PocketCloud Remote RDP/VNC and
Mocha VNC Lite.
Step 7
Launch the VNC client application on your
Android device and connect to the IP address
for your office network that you noted earlier.
Enter the password you specified for your
server. The router will follow the port
assignment table and connect you to the
computer running the VNC server, which will
display on your screen. You can then run any
EXE file from your Android phone, which will
be displayed on and controlled from within the
VNC client.
Tip
Third-party software and services can make
this process simpler if you are not able to
implement these instructions on your office
network. Remote Desktop, LogMeIn and
pcAnywhere simplify the VNC server and
client process, while dynamic DNS service
allows you to assign a network name to your
VNC server rather than using IP addressing

How to install your printer

Setting up the hardware for each printer is
different and should be covered by the
manual. The software though should be pretty
similar for any Pinter. Under Windows 5 or 98,
printers aren’t added to the usual Ass new
hardware wizard. If you start up your machine
with your printer attached and on, Windows
should spot it ans start the Add printer wizard,
It will ask you to install a drive for the printer;
Windows might already have a driver for it.
It’s likely that your printer has come with a
disk or CD containing drivers that supersede
those even within Windows 98. Drivers change
so tepidly that it’s almost impossible for the
operating system to have the best ones.
You need to specify that you have a disk for
the drivers; and you may have to actually
choose the folder on a CD where the drivers
are kept. Windowa95 and 98 ask for this
different ways, but the information they need
is the same. You need to browse to the folder
that contains the inf file witch holds the driver
information . This is often not on the root.
Some CD have it in a drivers folder , or in a
Win 95 or even Win9x folder. Others have CD’s
witch contain drivers for multiple languages,
so look for a ENG folder. Any combination of
these is possible. When you locate the folder
and click OK , the dialog box should offer you
a list of printers that you can install from the
CD; your exact model should be there. When
you install the driver, you may also find extra
utilities. These do things like calibrate the
heads so that is knows they are aligned for
mixing black ink with the colors .
They may also replace the Windows print
manager witch isn’t very good. Before
printing, ensure that you preform any of the
tests the driver offers, because it might not
prompt you to do so. Go to your printers
folder from CONTROL PANELS folder and right
click on the printer’s icon and select
PROPERTIES to see all options. This is also
where you can change the detail settings for
better print outs. To get the best out of your
printer check the manufacture’s Web site for
later drivers. It’s possible that they’ve been
updated since installations.
